The BMW 530e Plug In Hybrid is an official pure electric range of 29 miles and once that is up you have a turbo charged 2L petrol engine to  keep you going with all of that fuel saving, tax beating, congestion charge beating goodness of a plug in hybrid in as good a car as the BMW 5 series. On paper it is unsettling and as good as it sounds and after all it is competitive on price.
You will find the charging point for the BMW 530e EV just behind the front passenger wheel, it uses a Type 2 to type 2 ev charging cable or a  Type 2 to a three pin domestic cable which can charged up the  9.2kWh battery, it will take around 3 hours from any dedicated car charger, you can't charge up any faster than that regardless of how powerful the charging point is, even putting it into your normal socket at home will get the car charged in around four hours by the standard of most phev's that is good.
The BMW 530e is high-performance and very exciting to drive with its 248 brake hp and it will do 6 seconds to 60mph.  It feels like any other BMW 5 series but you would have to drive them back to back to notice the slight heavier one with the batteries on board.  There is little to criticise in the way the car drives you have all the modes close to hand including an eDrive button which allows you to toggle through the auto eDrive mode were the car just does its own business and chooses for you or maxi drive which is pure electric and you just cruise around silently which is great and then there is also a charge  function so the car will actually maintain the battery hold or will actually charge it up using the petrol engine which does mean obviously your going to take a big hit on your economy. If your an enthusiast and you want a plug in hybrid that drives well then the BMW 530e  will fit the bill.
